As the New Year comes in why not use this opportunity to get back into shape, try out new activities or increase your stamina?  While the NHS meets hospital and community health care day-to-day running costs, NHS Lothian services relies on charitable support to go above and beyond, to provide the extraordinary care, research and facilities to those who are sick and unwell.  Your fundraising can help transform lives for everyone in Edinburgh and the Lothians, so join our incredible group of fundraisers and pick a New Year Challenge today!

Whether you do a mile a day or five miles a few times a week, you can break it up in a way that works for you as you complete your miles wherever, whenever and however with running, walking, cycling or a step challenge.  Here’s some ideas to get you started with your New Year Challenge.

Running:

Ready… set….Go!!!  Run off Christmas by getting your running shoes on and raise money by completing a 5K, 10K or a marathon. Decide how long you would like to take on the challenge for e.g. a day or a month and the distance you would like to cover, and make a start by setting up your fundraising page today.

We also have charity assured places for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival – there are a range of distances to choose from, find out more.

Walking:

Lori Joyce Fundraising WalkingSet yourself a New Year challenge to walk 10,000 steps a day over a month and raise funds.  You’ll be amazed at the distance you’ll cover and can shed some of those Christmas pounds at the same time. Most smart phones have a built in step counter so you can easily keep track of how you’re doing.

You can set up a fundraising page to raise funds and track your miles using Strava which can be integrated onto your page.

If you fancy something a bit different like doing a virtual walk around Machu Picchu or in London have a look at World Walking to transport you some where else!

Cycling:

Adam 8 fundraising through cyclingSet a goal which challenges you. If you are new to cycling you could ask people to sponsor you to cover 10 miles or if you are more experienced why not set yourself a 50-mile challenge?

Or if you really want a challenge, then you could consider doing your own Tour de France, covering 2,200 miles over 23 days.

Fundraiser at work

You can get your employer, colleagues, suppliers and customers fundraising for your chosen hospital. We have lots of ideas of how to get everyone involved regardless of the size of your organisation, or whether you are working remotely.  It’s a great excuse for some team building, and all for a good cause.
