Development of a Patient Concern Inventory in Brain Cancer Patients for outpatient consultations

Organisation : School of Nursing, Midwifery and Social Care, Edinburgh Napier University
Grant Amount : £ 9,428
Project Dates : January 2014 to October 2015

This research project will undertake focus groups with glioma patients to explore the concerns they would like to discuss in outpatient neuro-oncology medical consultations.

Information from brain specific Quality of Life questionnaires and areas identified by previous research will be used to guide focus group discussions.

The focus groups will aim to identify concerns, explore what times in a treatment trajectory a patient concern inventory (PCI) would be most useful and explore what patients perceive would be the benefits of using a tool like this prior to the medical consultations.

This will help guide what outcome measures should be used for evaluating the PCI in the subsequent comparative study.
