Developing user involvement in education to enhance practice based learning.

Organisation : Education and Employee Development, NHS Lothian
Grant Amount : £ 36,002
Project Dates : May 2014 to May 2015

This project aims to investigate methods of enhancing patient/service user involvement in education and training initiatives and to evaluate their impact on care in clinical practice.

It will draw on existing experience of patient/public involvement developed within the Leadership in Compassionate Care Programme (Edinburgh Napier University & NHS Lothian, 2012; MacArthur, 2013).

The project will further examine the use of techniques such as the use of patient stories using emotional touchpoints (Dewar et al. 2011) and the generation of digital stories directly for use in education and training initiatives (Christiansen, 2011).

Adopting a participative action learning approach, the study will place emphasis on a partnership between researchers, practitioner and patients/service users.
