Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation Celebrates NHS Birthday with a Week of Thanks
June 29, 2020

Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation is marking the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the NHS by joining with the Together Coalition and the Big Blue Thank You to give thanks to everyone who has offered their support during the Coronavirus pandemic so far.

This weekend, 4 and 5 July, the Together Coalition is urging everyone to take part in the biggest thank you the country has ever seen. On Saturday evening, 4 July, everybody is being asked to put a light in their windows in remembrance of those who have died during the pandemic, with public buildings also being lit up in NHS blue. The anniversary itself, on Sunday 5 July, will be marked with a 5pm applause, encouraging friends and neighbours to show their appreciation and thank everyone who has helped us through this crisis.

On 5 July, registration also opens for the Big Blue Thank You, a worldwide movement that is encouraging people to come together to say thank you, whilst also getting active and raising money for charity.

Head of Fundraising at Edinburgh and Lothians Health Foundation, Nicola Sinclair, said: “What better occasion than the anniversary of the NHS to come together and give thanks to everyone who has supported us over the last few months. These have been difficult times for us all but the kindness of the local community has been amazing to witness. From keyworkers and carers to businesses and donors, everyone has played a part in supporting our fantastic NHS during the biggest global health crisis of our lifetime and we are extremely grateful for this. We will continue to work with all our supporters, and our NHS Lothian colleagues, as we start to move from crisis into recovery, to ensure that staff and patients, both in hospitals and in community settings, have access to ongoing support to help them fully recover once the crisis has abated, reducing the long-term impact on them and the people they care about.”

For anyone wanting to take part in the Big Blue Thank You, you can sign up at www.bigbluethankyou.com from 5th July or you can register your interest now, and remember to choose Edinburgh & Lothians Health Foundation as your charity.
