Youth Problem Gambling Prevention Initiative

Organisation : Fast Forward
Grant Amount : £ 40,000
Project Dates : April 2014 to June 2015

Problem gambling is a growing public health concern.

Adult gambling in the UK is steadily increasing; problem gambling among young people in Scotland is higher than the UK average (9% compared to 2%) (GamCare, 2010) yet here is little in the school curriculum to help young people understand the risks and there is no coherent national strategy to tackle youth problem gambling. Problem gambling is strongly associated with social deprivation.

Awareness about this issue among professionals is poor; services for young people are virtually non-existent.This project will enable staff to better prevent problem gambling and increase access to treatment for young people with gambling-related problems.
