Welfare Rights Advice and Health Project

Organisation : NHS Lothian
Grant Amount : £ 50,000

Tackling health inequalities, this project will extend the provision of welfare rights advice in GP practices, specifically targeting areas of deprivation in Lothian. It will provide welfare benefits support and information; debt management; representation at appeal tribunals; employability support; housing advice, casework and representation; and training and briefings for practice staff on welfare reform and financial inclusion. It will build on the existing welfare rights service in GP practices in Lothian, a service which has proved to be effective in terms of health improvement (particularly reducing stress and anxiety) and economic gain for patients and local communities.
