The Ca(I)re Programme Befriending Project

Organisation : Eric Liddell Centre
Grant Amount : £ 21,957

A new Carers’ Befriending Service is set to support people living in Edinburgh who are caring for someone on an unpaid basis.  Coming out of a successful pilot project the service will remove or lessen isolation and loneliness experienced by carers by matching them with volunteer befrienders.  It will promote the development of self confidence and self esteem, enabling carers to live independently in the community and carry on caring with confidence, making a positive impact by introducing people to each other on a friendly, informal, yet supportive basis.  With this application we would like to secure funding enabling us to launch the service to support the current matches, to reach out to new carers and recruit additional volunteers.
