Screening for children with a learning disability in paediatric services

Organisation : NHS Lothian
Grant Amount : £ 36,000

The proposal is in response to the invitation from ELHF to apply for a second year of funding to complete and fully meet the aims of the following project: The project, is a partnership between NHS Lothian, Edinburgh Council and academic staff and aims to pilot the introduction of the Child and Adolescent Intellectual Disability Screening Questionnaire (CAIDS-Q) into paediatric services in NHS Lothian, as a means of quickly and accurately identifying those children who are likely to have an intellectual disability (ID). The planned outcomes are to encourage routine screening thereby reducing health inequalities and improving the patient experience of children with ID and their parent/carers. The project will be evaluated by obtaining the views of paediatricians and families/carers about the use of the CAIDS-Q and the impact on the health care and support of children with ID.
