Research Futures is a workforce development fund provided by NHS Lothian Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions (NMAHP) Directorate to support postgraduate research training for NMAHPs employed by the Board. It supports staff early in their research career development and promotes research capacity and capability by building a sustainable caucus of NMAHPs developing research skills/knowledge alongside their clinical skills/knowledge. The scheme complements other established sources of funding for more advanced clinical academic research training (e.g. Lothian’s NMAHP Clinical Academic Research Careers Scheme and the NRS Fellowship scheme). This initiative will sustain a greater volume of quality applied healthcare research amongst these professions in order to promote a robust, evidence-based grounding for service delivery improvements of direct benefit to patients in Lothian.
