ReConnect

Organisation : Scottish Chamber Orchestra
Grant Amount : £ 6,000

‘ReConnect’ is a programme of interactive creative music workshops for people living with dementia, designed and delivered at the Royal Edinburgh Hospital by SCO Connect in partnership with the Edinburgh University Institute for Music in Human and Social Development (IMHSD).Dementia affects thousands of people in Edinburgh alone (www.alzscot.org). Existing research has shown that music can help to alleviate many of its symptoms, and a number of interactive music projects, notably Wigmore Hall’s ‘Music for Life’ and the SCO ReConnect pilot, have led to positive outcomes for patients. There is currently a lack of opportunities for patients and carers in Edinburgh to participate in creative music projects.  By drawing on the extensive skills and experience that the project team offers, ‘ReConnect’ would remedy this, and would also make a valuable contribution to research on the subject.
