Provision of a purpose-built palliative care vehicle for end of life transport for patients across Lothian.

Organisation : NHS Lothian
Grant Amount : £ 75,159

A patient’s final journey, whether to a hospice or back to their own home, can be fraught with practical and emotional challenges. Very often, the journey has to be made at short notice and within a very narrow time frame, which can be difficult to achieve with Scottish Ambulance Service resources that are already stretched. This project seeks to provide a dedicated Palliative Care vehicle, specifically equipped to make the journey as comfortable as possible for both the patient and any relatives. The vehicle will only be used for palliative patients and when not in use will be held on stand by, ready to respond quickly when a request comes in.
