Pilot of Playlist for Life intervention on continuing care wards in Mid and East Lothian

Organisation : NHS Lothian, Glenlee Ward, Midlothian Community Hospital and Lammerlaw Ward, Herdmanflat Hospital
Grant Amount : £ 3,200

People in Midlothian and East Lothian requiring long term mental health inpatient treatment receive care in Glenlee Ward, Midlothian Community Hospital, and Lammerlaw Ward, Herdmanflat Hospital.

These wards provide specialist mental health nursing care to manage the symptoms of mental illness and advanced dementia. Many of the people staying on the wards experience agitation and restlessness.

Nursing and Occupational Therapy staff work together to reduce these symptoms with non-pharmacological interventions. Music is used on the wards in communal areas and with some individuals.

We would like to pilot the use of  Playlist for Life  on the wards, to use music on a more personal level to improve wellbeing.  We will work in partnership with Playlist for Life, who will provide training for key staff on the wards, and support to implement this approach within this setting.
