Pilot ‘enhanced’ postnatal contraceptive service project in South East Edinburgh

Organisation : NHS Lothian
Grant Amount : £ 35,000

This project will pilot improved access to postnatal contraception for women in SE Edinburgh and evaluate its effectiveness to inform better integration of contraceptive advice and choice into maternity care across Lothian. It addresses unmet need for contraception provision tailored to postnatal women. Contraceptive counselling in the antenatal period, enabling women to identify their preferred contraceptive method, will be linked to planning for individually-tailored contraceptive provision post-delivery, including an option for initiation in hospital following delivery. While being universally available to women in SE Edinburgh, the project will specifically address barriers of access for women living in disadvantaged circumstances.
