The role of peer mentoring has been implemented as part of the treatment process in LEAP for a number of years. Delivering a peer mentoring approach in alignment with the existing treatment model has been a valuable asset to the patients’ treatment process. Peer supporters are able to provide shared personal experiences of treatment and recovery in a way that inspires hope to current patients, encouraging them to take more control of their own recovery. Small Grants funding would compliment the existing Roberton Trust funding provided for this new role and would be used for Teambuilding e.g. outdoor activities, teambuilding workshops and occasional social outings to build upon the social capital of the Peer Support Group. These activities would help new peer supporters gain confidence in their role.
