NHS Community Gardens

Organisation : NHS Lothian
Grant Amount : £ 25,000

The NHS Community Gardens started in January 2010 to explore opportunities for temporary community gardening on NHS Lothian land. It was designed and set-up with a view to replication, creating a range of 6 multi-use green spaces welcoming a mix of user groups, across the NHS estate. The project has a holistic approach to health promotion, recognizing long term beneficial impacts of community gardening through opportunities created for physical activity, relaxing and serene environment, healthy lifestyles, healthy eating, social inclusion and contact with the natural world. Community involvement in hospitals and working together is crucial to success of the project.
