Willow ward is a 25 bed unit for individuals suffering from varying levels of advanced dementia.
Due to cognitive impairment patients are often unable to communicate or express themselves verbally.
Recently much more emphasis is placed on promoting meaningful activities for patients suffering from dementia.
Willow ward has now employed a full time activity co-ordinator who will work closely with nursing staff and the occupational therapists on the ward to enhance patients life by engaging with them in meaningful activities.
With the purchase of specialist sensory equipment staff will be able to engage witht patients who have varying levels of cognitive impairment using senses such as visual, smell, touch and sound.
