Inpatient Arts Therapies Pilot

Organisation : NHS Lothian, various wards, Royal Edinburgh Hospital
Grant Amount : £ 2,100

Having begun a successful pilot of Art & Music Therapy on Meadows female inpatient ward, the proposal is to establish a ‘library’ of Arts Therapies equipment, including art materials, instruments and two lockable trolleys, so that the provision can be piloted on other wards on the Royal Edinburgh Hospital campus. Providing ward based evidence based open groups fulfils a number of functions simultaneously. It responds to patient’s requests regarding what helps, it give patient’s access to psychological treatment even when they are too unwell to leave the ward and arts therapists role model a way of working and communicating that will enhance inpatient care during transition onto new wards.
