First Point for Music

Organisation : Veterans F1rst Point, NHS Lothian
Grant Amount : £ 3,384
Project Dates : April to September 2014

First Point for Music is a project specially designed by Live Music Now Scotland in collaboration with Veterans F1rst Point for hard to reach ex-servicemen and women. F1rst Point is a one-stop service for veterans and their families who live within the Lothians to help them move forward with their lives out of service. The package of support offered is a holistic one, including arts activity, but it does not currently include music as a therapeutic tool.

Following discussion between F1rst Point and Live Music Now, Scottish traditional music would be the genre of choice for this project.  All musicians have been specially auditioned, mentored, trained and are experienced in working with people of all ages, backgrounds and levels of ability.

Sessions will be planned in advance by the musicians, working with F1rst Point, to be complementary to the other support services and activities offered by the centre. The sessions will be interactive and will culminate in a joint performance and social occasion, to which family members will be invited.

It is also intended to showcase the project at the armed forces festival in July, or around Remembrance Day in November or at the F1irst Point conference in October.
