Feasibility study of the use of telehealth as the preferred mode of delivery of a family intervention for childhood obesity

Organisation : Edinburgh Napier University
Grant Amount : £ 39,937

This qualitative study will evaluate the contribution of videoconsultation to an intensive weight management programme for obese children. The programme builds on established behavioural principles and will combine group exercise sessions at a sports centre with an educational/behavioral component aimed at families. Using videoconsultation for the educational/behavioural component, taking it directly into homes, is expected to address the lack of family involvement and commitment to change found to be a major limiting factor when an earlier version of the programme was evaluated. The programme and clinical follow up of the children have already been resourced, but a systematic investigation of the familes’ experience of the different elements of the programme is needed  so we can refine  the intervention and plan a future trial.
