Enhancing Self Management of Chronic Pain

Organisation : Pain Concern
Grant Amount : £ 10,000
Project Dates : January to December 2014

The project is to advance the primary-care management of chronic pain. Pain Concern will engage with people of all age gps, socio-economic background, ethnicity and literacy level.

Year 1, we will gather information via focus groups with (separately) people in pain, families, carers & healthcare professionals to ascertain their perspective, focusing on barriers & frustrations they experience. We will follow focus groups with interviews to capture all issues and barriers to self-mgment.

In year 2, we will develop & trial solutions e.g: leaflets/ webcasts/ developing an interactive app/online tutorial. The outcome will enable people to understand their condition, what healthcare professionals can do to help them, how to articulate concerns and enter a constructive dialogue. H/care professionals will recognize concerns and feel empowered to help & encourage patients to self-manage pain effectively.
