Edible Gardening Project – growing food to keep communities healthy

Organisation : Royal Botanic Gardens
Grant Amount : £ 20,000

Following on from a successful pilot in 2011, this project will recruit and train a task force of volunteers to demonstrate edible gardening skills and promote healthy eating within the community. Individuals and community groups in Edinburgh and the Lothians will be given a start in growing, sharing, cooking and eating their own fruit and vegetables for the first time. The underlying aim is to improve the level of health within the community by helping to reduce some widespread health problems, like obesity, depression, ADHD and other conditions that have been related to poor diet, lack of exercise and isolation.
