DofE in CAMHS and the Community Project

Organisation : Friends of the Award in Edinburgh and the Lothian's
Grant Amount : £ 30,504
Project Dates : August 2015 to July 2017

We require funding to employ a Development Officer to enable young people attending Children and Adolescent Mental Health Services Unit at NHS Lothian, Royal Edinburgh Hospital opportunities to participate in Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE).

The Development Officer will provide one to one mentoring sessions, deliver project activities and expeditions to enable young people to complete Award Sections. Young people preparing to leave CAMHS can access mentoring in the community to bridge transition and integration into the community and return to education and employment.

We aim to;

  • improve patient experience at CAMHS
  • aid recovery through social development
  • develop new skills and build confidence

In addition, work towards reducing social stigma and raise awareness of mental health through involvement of young people in mainstream DofE groups and activities within the community.
