Developing pathways: A music therapy pilot in acute psychiatric care. How can a presence in acute care support the transition to music therapy services in the CMHT

Organisation : Art and Music Therapies, East Lothian Community Mental Health Team
Grant Amount : £ 3,350
Project Dates : September 2017 to February 2018

Hermitage Ward is the psychiatric inpatient ward associated with patients from East and Midlothian.  There is currently no arts therapies provision on this ward. However there is a music therapy service offering support to outpatients in East Lothian.

We recognise that to develop and integrate the role of the arts therapies and the arts in health further there is a need to investigate transitions and develop pathways from inpatient services to the community.

This project by offering a presence in acute services, alongside the current service in East Lothian CMHT, will be able to explore the potential benefits of the arts therapies being available at different stages of care pathways in mental health.
