Developing engagement of patients and vulnerable people at NHS Community Gardens

The project aims to develop the current infrastructure at the Royal Edinburgh and Midlothian Hospital community gardens in order to increase the involvement of hospital patients, staff, visitors and vulnerable people.

This project will

  • Recruit 2 Patient/Volunteer Engagement Workers, and 2 teams of 4 volunteers at each hospital site to involve hospital patients and staff, visitors, and people living in the community
  • Recruit a Horticultural Tutor and 2 Green Learning Workers and volunteers to ensure that all those wishing to participate in the community gardens can gain the necessary skills, via informal and accredited courses
  • Recruit an Outreach Worker to develop and manage referrals to and from the community gardens and hospital and community services; and develop the physical infrastructure of the gardens
