To provide reimbursement of additional expenses incurred by carers where their family member is placed out of area for treatment. Examples of this are parents of children with cerebral palsy who we currently refer to England for surgery and rehabilitation. These parents may need to relocate their family to be near the child undergoing treatment for a period of a few weeks and therefore may have many additional expenses. Or parents of forensic mental health and learning disability patients who are placed in medium secure units in England. Visiting their relative is important particularly so when they are first placed out of area. Families require funding for any additional expenses incurred over and above travel (limited travel and accommodation are already funded by Safe Haven).
