Biking Essentials: a training programme for young leaders and workers

Organisation : Youth Scotland
Grant Amount : £ 20,000

Bike Club exists as a highly successful young person-centered programme with the overall aim of using cycling-based activities to embed cycling into every day lives. At present, Bike Club operates a small grants scheme for community groups, alongside the support of a Development Officer who helps groups set up and sustain their programmes. Funding for this project runs out in December 2012. A real need has emerged from this project for high-quality cycling and leadership training for both young people and those who work with them. The proposal outines 2 training standards; a young leader progression pathway to train young people, a menu of training for workers / volunteers to support young people to become peer leaders. Both these strands will enable capacity-building with local communities, leading to the development and sustainability of peer-led cycle projects
